We’re excited to share our annual report from 2024! It’s amazing to see so many things come together and we’re so grateful for everyone who has collaborated with us to get here. We were really inspired, so much so that we made a video recap of our Little Forest plantings from the Fall!

Here are some highlights from the year:

  • We planted more than 2,600 trees and shrubs from 85 native species at 3 Little Forests and 33 Pocket Forests across the city; this brings LFK’s total plant count to 8,122 since 2021

  • There are now roughly 5,000 humans living within 300 metres of a Little Forest, and we used census data to get an idea of who they are - check out our graphics on p. 14 of the report

  • We also mapped out the network of Little Forests and Pocket Forests to see the connectivity across the city, and to find where we should focus our efforts for future plantings

  • We launched the Plant the Seed pilot project, with 22 classes at 11 different schools who are now growing and caring for more than 70 native plant species

  • We participated in dozens of events, talks, and workshops, and also supported 7 organisations who were interested in learning about our planting method

  • Lakeside Little Forest, as of last Fall, is the first Little Forest to become independent and self-sustaining - we’re looking forward to seeing the plants continue to grow and change in the coming years

In 2025, we’re looking forward to continuing our work across Kingston, and we’re hoping to plant another 50 Pocket Forests, while also launching our Pocket Meadow program! If you’re interested in planting one, please contact us at acorn@littleforests.org. We’re also excited to continue collaborating with the City on their Climate Adaptation Plan and their work towards the Bird Friendly City certification.

Thank you to all of you for your support throughout 2024 and all of the years before that; we couldn’t have done anything without our amazing community! A special thank you to our partnering organisations, and especially to Trees for Life, Green Communities Canada, and the Beacon Design Collective for funding our projects!
